Mimi and I returned to Houston last week and I am back teaching at HBU for our spring semester. My days are full of Hebrew grammar, the grammar and syntax of the Hebrew text of Amos and the Greek text of Philippians. Last Sunday, I returned to teaching our weekly Bible study, Oikos, at our home church – Houston’s First Baptist Church. The students have made our return to Houston meaningful, in spite of jet lag and the lingering desire to be back in Africa! You are most welcome to join us in worship at the university or on Sundays, HFBC, Harbor Room, at 10:30ish AM. Let’s journey together in community, committed to more joy in the days ahead.
My recent trip to Kenya and Uganda was a most meaningful time of ministry, thank you. We are planning a growing number of ministry efforts for June - August, 2009. HaMoreh continues to enjoy God’s favor in relationships that are deepening and in a growing number of ministry opportunities in Africa. Our African faculty are busy like beavers giving into the lives of young, African Christian leaders. Our HaMoreh sponsored African students are well and growing in knowledge and stature before our Lord. While circumstances in East Africa remain very difficult, sprits continue to soar as our Lord moves!
Our 2009 summer is shaping up to be very challenging! I am now assisting 6 American teachers in organizing teaching and other ministry opportunities for each of them in Kenya. We have a number of young people who are raising funds to come over this summer and work with orphans in Kenya. Four of my recent HBU graduates have recently moved to Africa. My home church will be back to Nairobi with a mission team in July - August. And we have new projects underway - a couple of other Houston churches have asked to come over and minister in Kenya this year and we are beginning discussions on how to best move 550 wheelchairs into Kenya for distribution to the many amputees and others unable to walk.
So, much to be happy about ahead for us!
Mimi and I pray that you will enjoy this same happiness in 2009. I have learned from Jesus (particularly Mt. 5:3-12) that I may be happy. He continues to teach me that I am happy when I am with him, just as I am….
