Legendary rock star, Bono, sums up Christianity in one little phrase: "grace over karma."  He used this phrase when describing his religion in an extensive interview with Michka Assayas.  While Bono admits "karma" - the "reap what you sow" principle - is no doubt a reality and part of God's created order, he affirms that it does not rule his fate.  Instead, God's grace overpowers karma for the Christian.  Bono explains that while God ought to punish us for our mistakes, he does not.  Rather, God gives us grace in the form of his son, Jesus, to pay our penalty.  It is by Jesus' suffering and death that God is free to love us fully and fully just in doing so.
