From Kenya with Peace

December 18, 2008 - — Dear Ones, We at HaMoreh Ministries wish you and yours a Merry Christmas. Our prayer is that you will enjoy celebrating the peace of Christ this season. We celebrate the birth of peace: "Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to men." (Luke 2:14) We celebrate the gift of peace: "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid." (John 14:27) We celebrate the certain victory of peace: "I have said this to you, so that in ...

Thanksgiving

November 24, 2008 - — Dear Ones, Mimi and I, along with our African family of faith, thank God for you. Please know of our prayers for you and of our great encouragement as you pray for us. We are most grateful for your presence in our lives and for all of our lives now being in Christ. This season, as we enjoy God’s gracious gifts, may we especially treasure one another. I am reminded of the song of ascents (Psalm 133) wherein the poet extols the unique quality of God’s children enjoying life together. Running out of adjectives, the poet writes ...

The Harvest is Plentiful

October 01, 2008 - — Dear Ones, On behalf of our African family of faith, Mimi and I thank you for your prayers and for your support of our 2008 mission to the beautiful and needy people of Africa. Our summer was jammed full of Bible teaching in churches and in classrooms. With heartfelt thanks for your help, here are just a few mentions of God’s work amongst us this summer: • Mentoring our 6 resident African faculty members teaching Old and New Testament classes and assisting them as they train younger teachers to follow • Mentoring 5 North ...

Big Steps

August 04, 2008 - — Can you imagine worshipping at a graduation ceremony? Like for real and full on? Recently, God moved through us as the Holy Spirit caught us up in graduation celebrations at Christian educational institutions here in the Nairobi area. Like proud parents, Mimi and I participated in graduation ceremonies for dear African students that we have taught, mentored, and that HaMoreh has sponsored. We thank you for your part in sending these young leaders on God's way. Mimi and I only wish that you were here to watch and celebrate with us...!

Full and Fuller

July 19, 2008 - — Greetings from Limuru, Kenya. Mimi and I thank you all for your concern and for your support and for your prayers. We are well and very, very busy. My health is holding up fine. I am fatigued, but think it related to our ministry schedule here. God continues to challenge us with many fruitful opportunties, day by day. Mimi is fine, she has struggled with a bacterial infection - but this is quite common here. Recently, the weather has been unkind to us - we are up at altitude in cold and wet conditions. We pray for sunshine - which is ...

From Africa with Love

July 03, 2008 - — Mimi and I are now settling into our summer rhythms in Kenya. As always, a couple of weeks are needed to slow my mind down and to think more thoroughly about … everything. This summer, I am teaching an advanced Greek reading class at the Kenya Baptist Theological College. Our Greek classroom is full, with several auditing the class in hopes of learning more. What a treat to be back with young African Christians! Our days are very full - I’m lecturing 4 hours a day, 5 days a week now. Afternoons include grading and preparing ...

Making Ready

April 10, 2008 - — Mimi and I thank you for praying for peace. Our Kenyan family of faith remains safe and hopeful following the recent return of peace to Kenya. We are busily making preparations for our summer mission in Kenya, as are our US students and other ministry partners. My 2008 Kenya teaching, preaching, and mentoring schedule is full and God continues to call new laborers to work alongside us in our hearts' homeland. Three church groups are joining us to minister in Kenya this summer and students from HBU, Samford University, and Regent ...

Thanks to Friends

April 09, 2008 - — We would like to thank you for your prayers and support concerning the recent Concert for Kenya. Thank you to each of you that joined us. We thank God for opportunities to spend time together! What an incredible opportunity it was to enjoy a great time together and also benefit the beautiful men and women of Kenya. It was a blessing to catch up with friends and spend time relaxing while enjoying some great music provided by the bands. The Concert for Kenya could not have happened without the hard work of Jessica Lankford and friends, or ...

Looking Up and Down

February 07, 2008 - — While our African family continues to struggle in circumstances that look worse and more threatening day by day, Mimi and I continue to pray for help. We have been talking with our dear ones in Kenya each morning for the last month. Fear and fatigue steal the joy that we are used to hearing in familiar voices. Emotional pain flattens tones and shortens conversations. Laughter has become like a precious spice ... hard to find in that part of the world these days. < > Likely you know the current numbers - over 1,000 people ...

Labor of Love

January 03, 2008 - — New Year's greetings from HaMoreh Ministries. < > We hope and pray that 2008 will be an unending, awesome encounter with God for all of us! Mimi and I returned to Houston last weekend and have been heartbroken over current events in Kenya ever since. We are in Houston and safe, but desire to be with our loved ones in Kenya - like never before! Kenyans have met the new year with violence that Mimi and I never even imagined possible. Since independence, Kenya has always been a safe haven for ...
